Why I'm Finally Starting Blacksmithing

And What to Expect Going Forward

img 3775

I’ve been interested in blacksmithing for over a decade now, and I am done waiting. Ever since I watched an episode of Forged in Fire, I was hooked. Since then, I’ve watched countless YouTube videos and learned bits and pieces. But nothing replaces real hands- on experience.

Now I’m in a position to actually start.

Why I Created This Website

I created this website because I thought it’d be a fun way to document what I’m doing and to keep me accountable. I also work in marketing and the idea of building my own website and having something of my own really drew me in. Over the next few months, I am going to build a forge and start working on my own projects. Projects that I will get to write about here so stay tuned!

Beginner Advice

If you are interested in blacksmithing and are able to, take a class. Experienced Smiths have the knowledge, tools, and feedback you won’t get on your own. So far, I’ve taken two classes, one where we learned the basics and made simple wall hooks. And the other where we made knives out of railroad spikes. Feeling the squish of hot metal under your hammer is something you don’t get when watching a video or reading an article.

My Goal

My goal for this website is to document my journey, my successes, my mistakes and what I learn along the way. I do not have a forge or anything yet but those are coming soon. In the meantime, I’m going to write basic articles outlining some practical beginner knowledge. I hope to inspire other people to do whatever they want to do. It doesn’t have to be blacksmithing but if you’re able to do it today, then why wait? Just start and figure out the rest along the way.
